Water Conservation at the City of Phoenix
Darren Sversvold, Principle Planner, City of Phoenix
In Arizona and the arid southwest, water is a precious resource that has been the subject of governmental planning and management for more than a hundred years. As a significant water consumer, the City of Phoenix has been a part of this effort and has implemented programs to ensure the responsible use of water. Darren Sversvold is a planner for the City of Phoenix and will present some projects that demonstrate how Phoenix continues to upgrade its operations at City facilities.
Industrial Assessment Center at Arizona State University
Pat Phelan, Arizona State University, School for Engineering of Matter, Transport & Energy
The ASU Industrial Assessment Center (IAC), supported by the US Department of Energy (DOE) Advanced Manufacturing Office, is one of 28 university-based centers throughout the USA that provide FREE energy efficiency, productivity, and waste minimization assessments of small- and medium-sized manufacturing plants. In our previous experience as an IAC we conducted more than 400 assessments, largely in Arizona but also in the Las Vegas region. These assessments led to average implemented cost savings of more than $35,000 per assessment. We recently started our second year under a renewed contract with DOE, and in partnership with RevAZ and others we are now conducting 20 assessments per year with faculty-led teams of undergraduate and graduate engineering students. Our primary focus is on energy efficiency, especially for industrial systems such as compressed air, steam, pumps, chilled water, HVAC, lighting, etc. Learn more at https://iac.engineering.asu.edu/, where companies can also sign up for a free assessment.
