Central Arizona Project (CAP) Update
Central Arizona Project (CAP) delivers more than 1.5 million acre-feet of Colorado River water per year to Pima, Pinal and Maricopa counties. The 336-mile long system of aqueducts, tunnels, pumping plants and pipelines stretches from Lake Havasu to south of Tucson.
Come hear how these issues impact you:
- Since water deliveries began in 1985, CAP's Colorado River water has generated in excess of $1 trillion of Arizona's gross state product, in recent years this accounts for nearly 50% of the annual gross state product and 1.6 million job-years of employment.
- CAP's junior priority on the Colorado River means when shortage is declared, CAP is cut first and forecasts indicate the first shortage will likely occur in 2017.
- CAP's legislative goals include an extension of the 4‐cent tax authority.
